The learning curve – Indiana adopts ASHRAE 90.1-2007 as commercial code

Seen as a huge paradigm shift to reduce energy consumption in commercial buildings, Indiana has adopted a new energy code, ASHRAE 90.1 2007 with amendments. It is significantly different than the previous Indiana energy Code and is sure to spark a learning curve among specifiers and electrical contractors in the state.

The challenge?

A huge leap in requirements will force professionals to learn different processes, as well as find new fixtures that are in compliance with codes.

The solution? Good communication

In order for new specifiers, contractors, electrical manufacturers and others in the commercial building industry to understand and adopt these requirements, good communication is key.

For example, we’ve noticed that several state chapters in Indiana are taking the lead to get the conversations started.  Northern Indiana ASHRAE and USGBC-IN both hosted events where speakers focused on the new legislation and how the news impacts the audience’s best practices.

Here at Prescolite, we travel across the nation to keep our sales agents and customers current on the very latest in legislative changes, as well as educate them on products that comply with ever-evolving energy mandates.

What kind of challenges have you faced when meeting these type of mandates in your area?  How do you learn about updates in legislative requirements?  We’d love to hear from you to keep the conversation going.
